Walmart Completes Vibe.co Acquisition to Expand Its Streaming TV Advertising Business

Walmart has completed its acquisition of Vibe.co, adding a self-service streaming television advertising platform to its growing advertising business.

The retailer confirmed the deal’s completion on August 4, 2026, about six weeks after announcing the agreement. Walmart did not publicly disclose the purchase price.

However, The Wall Street Journal previously reported that Walmart was paying approximately $1.4 billion for the advertising technology company.

The acquisition places Vibe.co inside Walmart Connect, the retailer’s commerce media business. It also strengthens Walmart’s push beyond traditional retail and ecommerce.

What Vibe.co Brings to Walmart

Vibe.co provides a self-service platform for buying connected TV, commonly known as CTV, advertising. These advertisements appear through internet-connected televisions and streaming services.

The platform lets businesses plan campaigns, select audiences, set flexible budgets and measure results without relying on a large advertising agency.

Walmart said Vibe.co has served more than 10,000 advertisers. Its technology includes audience targeting, AI-powered optimization and campaign measurement tools.

This makes the platform especially useful for small businesses, ecommerce brands and Walmart Marketplace sellers with limited marketing teams.

Vibe.co founders Arthur Querou and Franck Tetzlaff are joining Walmart Connect alongside the company’s wider team.

Why Walmart Wants a Bigger Advertising Business

Advertising has become an increasingly important growth engine for Walmart. It offers higher margins than many parts of the company’s traditional retail operation.

Walmart can use its shopping insights to help brands reach relevant customers. It can also connect advertising exposure with online and in-store purchases.

That closed-loop measurement gives advertisers a clearer picture of whether a campaign influenced sales. Traditional television advertising often offers less direct attribution.

Walmart’s global advertising business grew 36% during its first quarter of fiscal 2027. Walmart Connect grew 44%, excluding Vizio, during the same period.

The Vibe.co acquisition gives Walmart another way to attract businesses that find streaming television advertising difficult, costly or complicated.

How Vibe.co Fits With Walmart’s Vizio Strategy

The acquisition also builds on Walmart’s $2.3 billion purchase of smart television maker Vizio, completed in December 2024.

Vizio gave Walmart access to a larger connected television ecosystem and more advertising inventory. Vibe.co adds technology that simplifies buying and managing those campaigns.

Together, the businesses could help Walmart connect television advertisements with shopper activity across its stores, websites and digital services.

For example, a brand could launch a streaming campaign and later measure whether exposed customers purchased its products through Walmart.

That combination brings television advertising closer to the measurable model already common across search, social media and ecommerce platforms.

What the Acquisition Means for Advertisers

Small and mid-sized advertisers may gain easier access to premium streaming television inventory through a familiar self-service system.

They could also receive stronger targeting based on Walmart’s first-party commerce insights. These insights come from customer activity across Walmart’s retail ecosystem.

Vibe.co allows businesses to launch campaigns with flexible budgets and streamlined measurement. This removes some barriers traditionally associated with television advertising.

Walmart says the combined platform will help advertisers plan, purchase and measure campaigns across streaming and shopping environments.

However, Walmart has not announced every integration detail or a timeline for specific new features. Existing customers should expect changes to arrive gradually.

Advertisers will also watch how Walmart handles data access, platform transparency and relationships with outside publishers and technology partners.

Walmart Is Taking Clearer Aim at Amazon

The deal increases competition between Walmart and Amazon, which has developed a much larger digital advertising operation.

Both companies can connect advertising campaigns with shopping behavior. However, Amazon also controls Prime Video and several major digital media properties.

Walmart is building a different combination around retail data, Walmart Connect, Vizio devices and Vibe.co’s self-service technology.

The strategy could help Walmart attract smaller advertisers seeking television reach without traditional budgets or complicated agency arrangements.

Industry reports have described the acquisition as an effort to challenge Amazon for more digital advertising revenue. The reported $1.4 billion price shows Walmart’s commitment to that strategy.

Still, Walmart must integrate the businesses smoothly and prove that its tools can deliver measurable results across multiple streaming environments.

What Happens Next

Walmart will now integrate Vibe.co’s platform and employees into Walmart Connect. The company has not announced major immediate changes for existing advertisers.

Its long-term goal is clearer. Walmart wants to make streaming television advertising easier to purchase and more closely connected with commerce results.

For advertisers, the acquisition could lower barriers to television campaigns while improving audience targeting and sales measurement.

For Walmart, the deal represents another step toward becoming a major advertising technology company, not only a retail giant.
