Perplexity’s Comet AI Browser is Launched for iOS

The wait is finally over for iPhone power users. Perplexity AI officially launched its highly anticipated Comet browser on iOS. This release follows a successful rollout on desktop and Android platforms. Consequently, mobile browsing just became much more intelligent. Comet is not a simple Safari clone. Instead, it serves as a fully functional AI agent. It lives inside your pocket and manages your web tasks.

An Assistant That Truly Browses for You

The core of Comet is the integrated AI Assistant. You no longer need to toggle between apps to find answers. Simply ask the Assistant to summarize a long news article. Furthermore, it can compare products across several open tabs. This “agentic” approach sets it apart from traditional mobile browsers. It can even handle complex chores like finding recipes or checking flight prices. These features streamline your digital life significantly.

Stunning Design Meets Deep Research

Comet brings a beautiful “Liquid Glass” aesthetic to the iPhone. The address bar morphs and moves gracefully as you scroll. Specifically, the browser includes a dedicated “Deep Research” mode. This tool analyzes multiple sources to provide cited, accurate answers. Meanwhile, the app keeps everything in sync with your desktop version. You can start a task on your Mac and finish it on your iPhone. This seamless transition boosts productivity for professionals and students alike.

The Move to Mobile Freedom

Initially, Comet cost users a hefty monthly subscription on desktop. However, Perplexity made the mobile version completely free to download. Users can still opt for premium tiers for advanced AI models. On iOS, the app utilizes Apple’s WebKit engine for stability. Interestingly, it uses a secure cloud browser for complex agentic tasks. This method protects your local device performance and battery life. It marks a bold step toward the future of web navigation.

The Verdict Byte Column: Our Honest Take

At Verdict Byte, we have tested dozens of AI tools. Comet feels different because it actually “does” the work. Most browsers just show you information. Comet understands the information and acts upon it. We love the snappy voice mode for hands-free research. However, the high data usage might worry some users on limited plans. Overall, we believe Comet is the first true “next-gen” browser for the iPhone. It makes Safari look like a relic of the past.
