Google Adds New Voice Features to Gmail, Docs and Keep

Google is adding new voice-based features to Gmail, Google Docs and Google Keep, giving users another way to interact with its apps without relying entirely on typing.

The new tools are called Gmail Live, Docs Live and Keep Live. They are powered by Gemini and are designed to let users speak naturally while Google handles tasks inside each app.

Gmail Live Can Search Your Inbox

Gmail Live lets users ask questions about information stored in their emails.

For example, instead of searching through multiple messages, a user could ask for a flight detail, order information or something mentioned earlier in an email thread.

Google will then look through the inbox and return the relevant information.

Docs Live Helps Create Documents by Voice

Docs Live is focused on writing.

Users can speak about an idea and let Google turn the conversation into a structured document or first draft.

The feature can also use information from Gmail, Drive, Chat and the web when access is allowed, which could make it useful for reports, notes and other work-related documents.

Keep Live Makes Voice Notes More Useful

Google Keep is also getting a similar feature.

With Keep Live, users can speak their thoughts instead of typing them out manually. Google can then organize that information into notes or lists.

This could be especially useful for quick reminders, shopping lists or ideas captured while on the move.

Availability

Google says the new features are beginning to roll out this week.

Gmail Live and Keep Live are available to Google AI Plus, Pro and Ultra subscribers, while Docs Live is available on the Pro and Ultra plans.

Google also plans to bring these features to Workspace business users.

Why It Matters

Google is gradually making voice a bigger part of how people use its apps.

Instead of opening an app, searching manually and typing everything out, users may be able to complete more everyday tasks simply by speaking.

For Gmail, Docs and Keep, that could make routine tasks quicker, especially on phones and other mobile devices.
