Bluesky CEO “Jay Graber” Stepped Down A Major Leadership

Bluesky recently announced a massive change in its executive team. On March 9, 2026, CEO Jay Graber officially stepped down. Consequently, she is taking on a completely new position. Graber will now serve as the Chief Innovation Officer. Meanwhile, veteran tech executive Toni Schneider steps in as interim CEO. This strategic move marks a pivotal moment for the decentralized platform.

Focusing On Pure Innovation

Why did Jay Graber decide to leave the CEO role? According to Graber, the rapidly growing company requires a seasoned operator. She wants someone entirely focused on scaling and seamless execution. Therefore, she chose to return to her core engineering roots. She absolutely loves building new things and exploring fresh ideas. Furthermore, her new role allows her to focus completely on technology. She will relentlessly drive the underlying AT Protocol forward.

A Veteran Operator Takes The Helm

Toni Schneider brings incredible experience to the interim CEO position. He previously served as the chief executive of Automattic. Automattic is the parent company behind the massively popular WordPress. Currently, he works as a prominent partner at True Ventures. Moreover, he served as a trusted advisor to Bluesky previously. He deeply believes in the mission of an open social web. Ultimately, his main goal is to help the platform scale effectively.

Scaling A Decentralized Giant

Under Graber’s leadership, Bluesky experienced truly explosive user growth. The social media platform recently surpassed 43 million active users. Initially, it began as an internal research project at Twitter. However, it spun out into a fully independent company in 2021. Many frustrated individuals migrated directly to Bluesky seeking better alternatives. Consequently, managing this massive influx created significant scaling challenges. Schneider’s vast operational expertise will help navigate these complex hurdles.

What We Feel at VB:

What we feel at Verdict Byte on this leadership transition is incredibly positive. Jay Graber made a brilliant, self-aware decision for the company. Founders rarely recognize when to hand over the operational reins. By stepping aside, she prioritizes the long-term health of the platform. Furthermore, bringing in a seasoned WordPress veteran is an incredibly smart move. We firmly believe Bluesky will continue thriving under this new structure. Therefore, this change firmly secures a much brighter decentralized future.
