Perplexity has just released “Perplexity Computer, ” a cloud-based AI agent that can work independently to complete complicated workflows by managing 19 different artificial intelligence models.
At a cost of $200 a month under the new Perplexity Max tier, this instrument is a daring leap from simple consumer searches towards top-notch, enterprise-level digital automation.
Multi-Model Approach
Rather than utilize only one algorithm, Perplexity Computer is conceived as a universal digital worker that decides tasks delegation to different specialized models according to their strengths. It is conceivable that heavy software engineering tasks are directed to Claude, visual production to Gemini, and medical data complexity to the most recent GPT versions for a single workflow. The clever re-routing feature enables the system to spawn subagents that work together in perfect harmony. It’s the combination of the absolute best capabilities of 19 different models that result in one final, consistent product.
Cloud-Native Architecture
Other differences between Perplexity Computer and closed-source local agentic frameworks like OpenClaw that put you in charge of your own machine is that the former is purely cloud-based. Additionally, this cloud-native setting greatly reduces the number of risks of security violation that autonomous AI agents usually face when running code or handling sensitive financial data. Enterprise clients may use these agents at their own risk for tasks such as scraping legal documents, building websites, or creating data visualizations, while at the same time preventing unauthorized access to their internal networks.

Pivot to Enterprise
Release of the new feature goes hand in hand with Perplexity’s major shift in focus away from courting mass consumer monthly active users. The company, which decided to ditch its highly controversial advertising model last year mainly for the sake of user trust, is now, in fact, keen on acquiring high-value corporate clients making GDP-moving decisions. The premium offering is all about high-margin, boutique research while simultaneously making Perplexity look very different from, for example, OpenAI, which is consumer-heavy in the sense of the volume approach.
